Talk:Index of flowers with entries in the Wikipedia

"Index of flowers with entries in the Wikipedia" is an admirably precise name for the article, but shouldn't it live at something like "types of flowers[?]"? Someone would go to "index of flowers with entries in the Wikipedia" to find out what flowers are covered by Wikipedia; but what Wikipedia aspires to have is a page where people would go if they were looking for a really huge list of flowers. So, it seems to me, in keeping with our ambitions, the name should be types of flowers[?]. (I'll leave it to those who are actually working on the page to make any changes. :-) ) --Larry Sanger

hmmm... I couldn't really think WHAT to call this list. So I picked on that title because it seemed fairly obvious... this isn't a list of ALL flowers on the face of the planet Earth - my mother has a 1000 page book for that, and it would be an encyclopedia by itself! It's just the ones with entries here... I was just trying to deorphan a few 'flower' entries that weren't linked to anything else, and this seemed the easiest way to do it. But I take your point. Now what would be the best way to actually do it? It would need subpages to really work because it would be prohibitively lengthy. Flowering trees, bulbs, annuals, perennials etc... or by continent/country of origin - English flowers, Australian flowers, North American flowers etc... KJ

Well, if I can chip in, I'd like to say I think it would be more useful to have e.g. flowers broken up according to continent or growth patterns, etc. (as you suggest above). That way they would be linked to from a page likely to provide more specific (& therefore relevant) context. Koyaanis Qatsi

Good point again! By native continent seems the best way to do it... we can always refine the list further if need be. But that way the page can be cross-linked to the appropriate geographical entry. ~KJ
