Right -- please pay attention. Genealogy belongs in genealogy books. This is an ENCYCLOPEDIA. Geneology only matters when it helps to tie together a broader picture. Replacing important information (like the investiture controversy) with badly punctuated geneology is stupid, inconsiderate, and generally unacceptable. End Rant. JHK

This continued the long-standing connection of German missionaries baptizing Rus as started with Ansgar from Hamburg and Bremen.It continued with baptism of Olga of Kiev and the daughters of noble families marriages to princes of Kiev and Novgorod, such as Oda von Stade[?] to Valdimar Holti the Nimble, prince of Novgorod, Rogneda von Polotsk etc. For many centuries Novgorod was a Hanseatic League outpost.
Ansgar is c. 800. Henry IV is born in 1050. This is irrelevant. Novgorod was a city before teh Hanseatic League existed. MichaelTinkler
