Sunil Gavaskar was the first test cricketer to score more than 10000 runs in test matches. Hailing from Bombay, India Gavaskar went on to become one of the most prolific run scorers in the history of the game. His batting prowess was second to none, and he had the gift of staying at the crease for long periods of time. He also holds the record for scoring the most number of test centuries (34) in test cricket history. His achievements acquire greater value due to the fact that he was an opening batsman who had to take on some of the fastest bowlers of his time with minimal protective gear.
