Summit County, Utah

Summit County is a county located in the U.S. State of Utah. As of 2000, the population is 29,736. It was so named because it includes 39 of the highest mountain peaks in Utah. Its county seat is Coalville6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 4,874 km² (1,882 mi²). 4,846 km² (1,871 mi²) of it is land and 28 km² (11 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.58% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 29,736 people, 10,332 households, and 7,501 families residing in the county. The population density is 6/km² (16/mi²). There are 17,489 housing units at an average density of 4/km² (9/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 91.80% White, 0.24% African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.96% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 5.43% from other races, and 1.21% from two or more races. 8.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 10,332 households out of which 40.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.50% are married couples living together, 6.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.40% are non-families. 18.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.87 and the average family size is 3.30.

In the county, the population is spread out with 29.80% under the age of 18, 8.40% from 18 to 24, 34.00% from 25 to 44, 22.90% from 45 to 64, and 4.90% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 108.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 108.30 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $64,962, and the median income for a family is $72,510. Males have a median income of $47,236 versus $28,621 for females. The per capita income for the county is $33,767. 5.40% of the population and 3.00% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 5.60% are under the age of 18 and 3.90% are 65 or older.
