Sugar Bush Township, Becker County, Minnesota

Sugar Bush Township is a township located in Becker County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 537.

Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 188.1 km² (72.6 mi²). 169.1 km² (65.3 mi²) of it is land and 19.0 km² (7.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 10.11% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 537 people, 176 households, and 140 families residing in the township. The population density is 3.2/km² (8.2/mi²). There are 319 housing units at an average density of 1.9/km² (4.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 65.92% White, 0.00% African American, 26.82% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 7.26% from two or more races. 1.68% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 176 households out of which 39.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.3% are married couples living together, 8.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.9% are non-families. 18.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.05 and the average family size is 3.43.

In the township the population is spread out with 34.8% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 20.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 106.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 110.8 males.

The median income for a household in the township is $25,500, and the median income for a family is $31,023. Males have a median income of $23,929 versus $18,333 for females. The per capita income for the township is $11,486. 21.8% of the population and 22.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 28.0% are under the age of 18 and 26.2% are 65 or older.
