Stord

The municipality Stord in the county of Hordaland, Norway, has 16,219 inhabitants as of January 1, 2002. The centre of Stord is Leirvik.

The island of Stord consists of two municipalities, Stord and Fitjar.

A extensive tunnel and bridge system, Trekantsambandet, connected Stord to the mainland and to Bømlo on April 30, 2001. The main underwater tunnel is 7860 m long, and reaches 260 m under sea level. The bridge to Stord is 1077 m long, the tower reaching 97 m above sea level.
