Stephen Gilbert

Stephen Gilbert (born 1910) is a painter, born in Fife, Scotland. He studied architecture at the University of London from 1929 and started painting in 1930.

During the Second World War he joined the White Stag Group[?] an Irish art group. In 1948 he exhibited in Paris and afterward got involved with the CoBrA art group and exhibited in both major exhibitions.

He was involved with the Bregnerod congress[?] and visited Svanberg[?] in Sweden. After his contact with CoBrA his approach to painting became more abstract. After the dissolution of CoBrA he remained in contact with Pierre Alechinsky.
