Incompetent to sustain great empire created by his father, Uroš could neither repel attacks of foreign enemies, nor combat self-will of his nobility. That was used by Byzant[?] which took from him Serbian Greece and Hungary which got hold of Mačva[?] and Belgrade. In the very state against him have rosen (1358), firstly his uncle, despot of Epirus Simeon and mother Jelena who started to rule autonomously with their areas, and from them took example Dejankovićs, Vukašin and Uglješa Mrnjavčević, brothers Balšić and Nikola Altomanović. At the end of his rule under direct Uroš's control were only lands between Šara[?] and Danube.
