Stanford is a town located in Judith Basin County, Montana. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 454. It is the county seat of Judith Basin County6.

Geography Stanford is located at 47°9'11" North, 110°13'9" West (47.153083, -110.219175)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²). 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 454 people, 210 households, and 120 families residing in the town. The population density is 407.7/km² (1,051.6/mi²). There are 254 housing units at an average density of 228.1/km² (588.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.68% White, 0.22% African American, 0.44% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.66% from two or more races. 0.44% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 210 households out of which 23.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.4% are married couples living together, 4.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.4% are non-families. 38.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.16 and the average family size is 2.93.

In the town the population is spread out with 24.0% under the age of 18, 4.6% from 18 to 24, 22.0% from 25 to 44, 28.0% from 45 to 64, and 21.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 105.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.8 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $22,679, and the median income for a family is $34,479. Males have a median income of $22,813 versus $20,000 for females. The per capita income for the town is $15,253. 13.8% of the population and 9.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 22.5% are under the age of 18 and 5.6% are 65 or older.
