St. Johns is a city located in Apache County, Arizona. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,269. The city is the county seat of Apache County6.

Geography St. Johns is located at 34°30'7" North, 109°22'18" West (34.501921, -109.371543)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 17.1 km² (6.6 mi²). 17.1 km² (6.6 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 3,269 people, 989 households, and 805 families residing in the city. The population density is 190.9/km² (494.8/mi²). There are 1,392 housing units at an average density of 81.3/km² (210.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 80.48% White, 0.37% African American, 6.24% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 9.12% from other races, and 3.49% from two or more races. 23.19% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 989 households out of which 44.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.7% are married couples living together, 10.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.6% are non-families. 15.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.19 and the average family size is 3.55.

In the city the population is spread out with 35.5% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 24.0% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 10.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 101.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $35,215, and the median income for a family is $37,478. Males have a median income of $38,477 versus $24,009 for females. The per capita income for the city is $13,331. 15.3% of the population and 12.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 18.2% are under the age of 18 and 10.8% are 65 or older.
