St. James is a town located in Brunswick County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 804.

Geography St. James is located at 33°56'27" North, 78°6'7" West (33.940918, -78.102045)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 9.0 km² (3.5 mi²). 9.0 km² (3.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.29% is water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 804 people, 385 households, and 344 families residing in the town. The population density is 89.5/km² (231.4/mi²). There are 618 housing units at an average density of 68.8/km² (177.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.89% White, 0.37% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.62% Asian, 0.50% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.62% from two or more races. 0.62% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 385 households out of which 6.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 88.6% are married couples living together, 0.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 10.4% are non-families. 8.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 2.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.09 and the average family size is 2.18.

In the town the population is spread out with 5.7% under the age of 18, 1.0% from 18 to 24, 7.5% from 25 to 44, 63.9% from 45 to 64, and 21.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 59 years. For every 100 females there are 97.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.9 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $92,656, and the median income for a family is $93,930. Males have a median income of $77,964 versus $16,250 for females. The per capita income for the town is $50,567. 0.0% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line.
