St. Helena is a village located in Pender County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 395.

Geography St. Helena is located at 34°30'48" North, 77°54'53" West (34.513218, -77.914835)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 14.6 km² (5.7 mi²). 14.6 km² (5.7 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 395 people, 162 households, and 116 families residing in the village. The population density is 27.0/km² (69.9/mi²). There are 175 housing units at an average density of 12.0/km² (31.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 69.37% White, 29.87% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.25% from other races, and 0.51% from two or more races. 0.76% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 162 households out of which 32.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.7% are married couples living together, 8.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.8% are non-families. 24.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.44 and the average family size is 2.88.

In the village the population is spread out with 23.8% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 29.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 85.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.5 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $36,042, and the median income for a family is $48,750. Males have a median income of $30,417 versus $19,545 for females. The per capita income for the village is $18,040. 7.7% of the population and 5.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 5.1% are under the age of 18 and 24.1% are 65 or older.
