Spring Lake, Michigan

Spring Lake is a village located in Ottawa County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 2,514.

Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.9 km² (1.1 mi²). 2.7 km² (1.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.36% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,514 people, 1,098 households, and 666 families residing in the village. The population density is 915.7/km² (2,372.4/mi²). There are 1,248 housing units at an average density of 454.6/km² (1,177.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.05% White, 0.32% African American, 0.44% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.36% from other races, and 0.60% from two or more races. 1.31% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,098 households out of which 25.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.5% are married couples living together, 7.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.3% are non-families. 36.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.16 and the average family size is 2.84.

In the village the population is spread out with 20.7% under the age of 18, 5.2% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 26.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 84.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 79.2 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $37,889, and the median income for a family is $44,797. Males have a median income of $34,293 versus $23,986 for females. The per capita income for the village is $26,372. 6.1% of the population and 4.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 6.8% are under the age of 18 and 4.2% are 65 or older.
