Splat is a system of gender-neutral pronouns used in many MUDs and MOOs. An asterisk (or "splat") is used to replace the letters that differ in the corresnding gender-specific pronouns. For example, h* is used rather than him or her.

The complete list of pronouns is:

  • *e (for he or she)
  • h* (for him or her)
  • h*s (for his or hers)
  • h*self (for himself or herself)
