South West City, Missouri

South West City is a town located in McDonald County, Missouri. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 855.

Geography South West City is located at 36°30'59" North, 94°36'43" West (36.516386, -94.611917)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.7 km² (1.4 mi²). 3.6 km² (1.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.41% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 855 people, 311 households, and 213 families residing in the town. The population density is 237.5/km² (613.6/mi²). There are 340 housing units at an average density of 94.4/km² (244.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 71.81% White, 0.12% African American, 7.13% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 15.91% from other races, and 4.80% from two or more races. 37.31% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 311 households out of which 41.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.1% are married couples living together, 11.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.2% are non-families. 26.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.75 and the average family size is 3.31.

In the town the population is spread out with 33.8% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 17.1% from 45 to 64, and 11.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $22,721, and the median income for a family is $24,808. Males have a median income of $19,688 versus $19,107 for females. The per capita income for the town is $9,526. 40.2% of the population and 29.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 51.9% are under the age of 18 and 33.9% are 65 or older.
