South Pass, Wyoming

South Pass, Wyoming is a pass in the Wind River Range[?] of the Rocky Mountains. From this pass flows the Sweetwater River[?] to the east and Pacific Creek[?] to the west. The first trappers to discover this pass were the Astorians[?] in 1812. The knowledge of the pass was lost which caused trappers to have to cross further north. The northern route was longer, crossed an extra range and offered a shorter season for crossing. In 1824 Jedediah Smith rediscovered this pass.
