South Bristol is a town located in Lincoln County, Maine. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 897.

Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 61.2 km² (23.6 mi²). 34.2 km² (13.2 mi²) of it is land and 27.1 km² (10.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 44.20% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 897 people, 410 households, and 277 families residing in the town. The population density is 26.3/km² (68.0/mi²). There are 932 housing units at an average density of 27.3/km² (70.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 99.00% White, 0.00% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.67% from two or more races. 0.45% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 410 households out of which 20.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.0% are married couples living together, 4.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% are non-families. 25.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.19 and the average family size is 2.58.

In the town the population is spread out with 16.7% under the age of 18, 4.6% from 18 to 24, 18.8% from 25 to 44, 34.9% from 45 to 64, and 25.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 52 years. For every 100 females there are 98.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.6 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $38,636, and the median income for a family is $46,765. Males have a median income of $31,696 versus $21,563 for females. The per capita income for the town is $28,233. 7.5% of the population and 3.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 6.0% are under the age of 18 and 15.0% are 65 or older.
