Somervell County is a county located in the U.S. State of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 6,809. Its county seat is Glen Rose6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 497 km² (192 mi²). 485 km² (187 mi²) of it is land and 12 km² (5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.46% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 6,809 people, 2,438 households, and 1,840 families residing in the county. The population density is 14/km² (36/mi²). There are 2,750 housing units at an average density of 6/km² (15/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 92.19% White, 0.28% African American, 0.69% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 5.11% from other races, and 1.45% from two or more races. 13.44% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,438 households out of which 37.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.70% are married couples living together, 9.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.50% are non-families. 21.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.73 and the average family size is 3.17.

In the county, the population is spread out with 28.40% under the age of 18, 7.70% from 18 to 24, 26.80% from 25 to 44, 23.70% from 45 to 64, and 13.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 99.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.90 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $39,404, and the median income for a family is $46,458. Males have a median income of $32,463 versus $23,381 for females. The per capita income for the county is $18,367. 8.60% of the population and 6.10% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 10.30% are under the age of 18 and 9.10% are 65 or older.
