Snead is a town located in Blount County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 748.

Geography Snead is located at 34°6'57.492" North, 86°23'29.443" West (34.115970, -86.391512).

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 14.1 km² (5.5 mi²). 14.1 km² (5.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.37% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 748 people, 342 households, and 219 families residing in the town. The population density is 53.1/km² (137.5/mi²). There are 388 housing units at an average density of 27.5/km² (71.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 99.47% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.27% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.27% from two or more races. 0.53% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 342 households out of which 21.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.8% are married couples living together, 7.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.7% are non-families. 33.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.19 and the average family size is 2.74.

In the town the population is spread out with 18.9% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 24.9% from 25 to 44, 26.7% from 45 to 64, and 23.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 81.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 78.5 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $25,240, and the median income for a family is $33,000. Males have a median income of $26,667 versus $17,188 for females. The per capita income for the town is $13,822. 11.0% of the population and 6.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 5.9% are under the age of 18 and 20.2% are 65 or older.
