Skip James (1902-1969). Early
blues master known for his singing and piano playing. Best known for "Devil Got My Woman." His original reputation, like many blues musicians, rested on just a few early recordings; his are from 1928 and 1929. He was "rediscovered" during the
folk & blues revival of the 1960s.
James was a main influence on Robert Johnson: the haunted tone, the mastery of his instrument, the solitude.
