Silver Lake is a city located in McLeod County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 761.

Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.9 km² (0.3 mi²). 0.9 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 761 people, 330 households, and 207 families residing in the city. The population density is 839.5/km² (2,191.4/mi²). There are 340 housing units at an average density of 375.1/km² (979.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 99.34% White, 0.13% African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.26% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.13% from two or more races. 0.66% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 330 households out of which 30.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.5% are married couples living together, 7.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.0% are non-families. 32.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 2.92.

In the city the population is spread out with 25.0% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 94.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $36,833, and the median income for a family is $47,917. Males have a median income of $35,000 versus $25,060 for females. The per capita income for the city is $18,126. 7.3% of the population and 3.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 8.0% are under the age of 18 and 17.7% are 65 or older.
