In
Norse mythology,
Sigmund was a son of
Volsung's and a husband of
Borghild. He retrieved the sword
Gram from the log in which
Odin had stuck it. Nobody but Sigmund was able to pull it out of the log. When he died, Sigmund bequeathed the sword to
Sigurd, his son, who was then raised by
Regin.
