Siesta Key, Florida

Siesta Key is a town located in Sarasota County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 7,150.

Geography Siesta Key is located at 27°16'31" North, 82°33'9" West (27.275150, -82.552631)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 8.9 km² (3.5 mi²). 5.9 km² (2.3 mi²) of it is land and 3.0 km² (1.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 33.62% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 7,150 people, 3,783 households, and 2,273 families residing in the town. The population density is 1,205.5/km² (3,120.1/mi²). There are 7,885 housing units at an average density of 1,329.4/km² (3,440.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.63% White, 0.10% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.43% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.25% from other races, and 0.43% from two or more races. 1.57% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,783 households out of which 9.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.9% are married couples living together, 3.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.9% are non-families. 33.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.89 and the average family size is 2.34.

In the town the population is spread out with 9.0% under the age of 18, 1.8% from 18 to 24, 15.6% from 25 to 44, 33.9% from 45 to 64, and 39.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 60 years. For every 100 females there are 90.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.9 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $66,397, and the median income for a family is $81,345. Males have a median income of $55,240 versus $32,263 for females. The per capita income for the town is $53,290. 4.4% of the population and 3.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 4.1% are under the age of 18 and 3.2% are 65 or older.
