Shotokan

Shotokan is a style of karate. It is the style of the man who first brought karate from Okinawa to Japan, Gichin Funakoshi[?]. Shoto was Funakoshis pen name for writing poems, while Shotokan was the name of the hall where "Shoto" trained his students. He did never try it give the style a name; he always called what he was doing plainly karate.

Shotokan karate is today split up on a few different organisations.
