Shit sandwich

Shit sandwich is a metaphor for things we may have to eat (for example swallow, in an also metaphorical sense) that are "shit" (dishonest, or somehow undesirable). Capitalism, for example, has been likened to a shit sandwich: The less bread you have, the more shit you have to eat.
