Shinar

Shinar was an ancient region including modern Kuwait, associated with the old Babylonian empire. The names Shinar and Sumer refer to approximately the same region and are probably related linguistically. For historical information about the region and its people, see Sumer.

Etymologically, the name Shinar comes to English from Hebrew via the Old Testament. In the Bible, Shinar is associated with false religion. See also Tower of Babel.
