Sherburne County, Minnesota

Sherburne County is a county located in the U.S. State of Minnesota. As of 2000, the population is 64,417. Its county seat is Elk River6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,168 km² (451 mi²). 1,130 km² (436 mi²) of it is land and 38 km² (15 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.26% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 64,417 people, 21,581 households, and 16,746 families residing in the county. The population density is 57/km² (148/mi²). There are 22,827 housing units at an average density of 20/km² (52/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.73% White, 0.85% African American, 0.45% Native American, 0.58% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.43% from other races, and 0.95% from two or more races. 1.10% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 21,581 households out of which 44.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.20% are married couples living together, 7.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.40% are non-families. 15.70% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.91 and the average family size is 3.27.

In the county the population is spread out with 30.90% under the age of 18, 9.60% from 18 to 24, 33.90% from 25 to 44, 18.40% from 45 to 64, and 7.10% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 104.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 103.20 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $57,014, and the median income for a family is $61,790. Males have a median income of $41,601 versus $27,689 for females. The per capita income for the county is $21,322. 4.40% of the population and 2.30% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 3.50% are under the age of 18 and 10.10% are 65 or older.
