Sharpsburg is a town located in North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,421.

Geography Sharpsburg is located at 35°51'59" North, 77°49'51" West (35.866336, -77.830960)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.4 km² (0.9 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,421 people, 884 households, and 649 families residing in the town. The population density is 1,027.2/km² (2,646.7/mi²). There are 994 housing units at an average density of 421.7/km² (1,086.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 39.45% White, 58.65% African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.54% from other races, and 0.99% from two or more races. 1.94% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 884 households out of which 43.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.2% are married couples living together, 27.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.5% are non-families. 22.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.74 and the average family size is 3.19.

In the town the population is spread out with 34.6% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 32.1% from 25 to 44, 17.3% from 45 to 64, and 6.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 28 years. For every 100 females there are 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 77.3 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $27,908, and the median income for a family is $30,192. Males have a median income of $26,818 versus $21,422 for females. The per capita income for the town is $12,603. 22.5% of the population and 19.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 28.4% are under the age of 18 and 24.7% are 65 or older.
