Seymour, Texas

Seymour is a city located in Baylor County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,908. It is the county seat of Baylor County6.

Geography Seymour is located at 33°35'30" North, 99°15'39" West (33.591552, -99.260968)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.0 km² (2.7 mi²). 7.0 km² (2.7 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,908 people, 1,273 households, and 790 families residing in the city. The population density is 412.8/km² (1,067.5/mi²). There are 1,534 housing units at an average density of 217.8/km² (563.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 89.24% White, 4.57% African American, 0.48% Native American, 0.72% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 3.44% from other races, and 1.44% from two or more races. 10.45% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,273 households out of which 26.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.1% are married couples living together, 10.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.9% are non-families. 35.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 21.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.25 and the average family size is 2.90.

In the city the population is spread out with 24.3% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 20.9% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 24.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 83.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 79.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $23,662, and the median income for a family is $32,917. Males have a median income of $21,891 versus $19,292 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,062. 19.5% of the population and 15.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 31.8% are under the age of 18 and 10.7% are 65 or older.
