Sequoyah, Oklahoma

Sequoyah is a town located in Rogers County, Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 671.

Geography Sequoyah is located at 36°23'11" North, 95°35'22" West (36.386400, -95.589467)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 20.8 km² (8.0 mi²). 20.8 km² (8.0 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 671 people, 238 households, and 199 families residing in the town. The population density is 32.3/km² (83.6/mi²). There are 248 housing units at an average density of 11.9/km² (30.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 79.14% White, 0.15% African American, 12.67% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.15% Pacific Islander, 0.15% from other races, and 7.75% from two or more races. 1.79% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 238 households out of which 36.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 77.7% are married couples living together, 3.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 16.0% are non-families. 13.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.82 and the average family size is 3.07.

In the town the population is spread out with 27.7% under the age of 18, 4.3% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 27.6% from 45 to 64, and 11.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 100.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.4 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $43,542, and the median income for a family is $50,417. Males have a median income of $32,969 versus $31,250 for females. The per capita income for the town is $19,189. 5.8% of the population and 7.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 0.0% are under the age of 18 and 34.5% are 65 or older.
