Seal Beach is a city located in Orange County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 24,157.

Geography Seal Beach is located at 33°45'33" North, 118°4'57" West (33.759283, -118.082396)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 34.2 km² (13.2 mi²). 29.8 km² (11.5 mi²) of it is land and 4.5 km² (1.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 13.01% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 24,157 people, 13,048 households, and 5,884 families residing in the city. The population density is 810.3/km² (2,099.5/mi²). There are 14,267 housing units at an average density of 478.6/km² (1,240.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 88.91% White, 1.44% African American, 0.30% Native American, 5.74% Asian, 0.18% Pacific Islander, 1.28% from other races, and 2.16% from two or more races. 6.43% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 13,048 households out of which 13.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.2% are married couples living together, 5.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 54.9% are non-families. 48.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 34.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.83 and the average family size is 2.65.

In the city the population is spread out with 13.3% under the age of 18, 4.0% from 18 to 24, 21.5% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 37.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 54 years. For every 100 females there are 78.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 75.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $42,079, and the median income for a family is $72,071. Males have a median income of $61,654 versus $41,615 for females. The per capita income for the city is $34,589. 5.5% of the population and 3.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 6.2% are under the age of 18 and 5.3% are 65 or older.
