Erwin Komenda,
Ferdinand Porsche's first car body designer, developed the car body construction of the
VW-Schwimmwagen. The vehicle was mechanically a KdF-Wagen (later known as a
VW Beetle), and the factory at KdF-Stadt (
Wolfsburg) produced the cars. Komenda patented his ideas for the swimming car at the German Patent office.
A few four-wheel-drive versions were made.
