Sand Point, Alaska

Sand Point is a city located in Aleutians East Borough, Alaska. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 952.

Geography Sand Point is located at 55°20'12" North, 160°29'36" West (55.336593, -160.493234)1.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 75.0 km² (28.9 mi²). 20.2 km² (7.8 mi²) of it is land and 54.8 km² (21.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 73.05% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 952 people, 229 households, and 155 families residing in the city. The population density is 47.1/km² (122.1/mi²). There are 282 housing units at an average density of 14.0/km² (36.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 27.73% White, 1.47% African American, 42.33% Native American, 23.21% Asian, 0.32% Pacific Islander, 2.21% from other races, and 2.73% from two or more races. 13.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 229 households out of which 39.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.4% are married couples living together, 15.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.9% are non-families. 25.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.67 and the average family size is 3.17.

In the city the population is spread out with 20.4% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 41.5% from 25 to 44, 26.3% from 45 to 64, and 3.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 165.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 181.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $55,417, and the median income for a family is $58,000. Males have a median income of $20,000 versus $22,500 for females. The per capita income for the city is $21,954. 16.0% of the population and 10.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 14.4% are under the age of 18 and 32.1% are 65 or older.
