According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 29.0 km² (11.2 mi²). 28.5 km² (11.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.87% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 23,444 people, 7,065 households, and 5,715 families residing in the city. The population density is 822.1/km² (2,130.2/mi²). There are 9,120 housing units at an average density of 319.8/km² (828.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 76.16% White, 0.32% African American, 0.41% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 20.48% from other races, and 2.38% from two or more races. 86.93% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 7,065 households out of which 41.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.6% are married couples living together, 19.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.1% are non-families. 16.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.30 and the average family size is 3.72.
