Samuel de Champlain

Samuel de Champlain (c. 1567 - 1635) was a French explorer of the Saint Lawrence River and of the Eastern seaboard of the United States.

Samuel de Champlain was born at Brouage[?], a coastal city southeast of Rochefort in France, opposite the island of Oléron.

Samuel de Champlain settled in his new country and in 1608 founded Quebec City, where he died on December 25, 1635.

Lake Champlain in the United States is named after him.

There is a monument of Samuel de Champlain in the Couchiching Beach Park in Orillia, Ontario.
