Samnite wars 327 - 290 BC

Between the years 327 BC and 290 BC, the Romans fought a series of wars against the Samnium[?] nation, an Oscan-speaking people who inhabited the southern Apennines[?]. While the Romans were ultimately successful in defeating the Samnites, they suffered a noteable defeat in the Battle of the Caudine Forks[?], which resulted with the surviving members of the Roman army being forced to pass under the yoke[?].
