Salamanca is a town located in Cattaraugus County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 6097.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 6097 people, 2,469 households, and 1,574 families residing in the town. The racial makeup of the town is 85.3% White, 0.7% African American, 11.7% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.2% from other races, and 1.8% from two or more races. 1.8% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,469 households out of which 31.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.2% are married couples living together, 15.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% are non-families. 31.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.41 and the average family size is 3.00.
