St. Paul is a city located in Howard County, Nebraska.

Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.7 km² (1.1 mi²). 2.7 km² (1.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.0 km² (0.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.00% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,218 people, 935 households, and 584 families residing in the city. The population density is 807.9/km² (2,083.8/mi²). There are 1,020 housing units at an average density of 371.5 persons/km² (958.3 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 99.37% White, 0.23% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.09% from two or more races. 0.86% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 935 households out of which 32.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.8% are married couples living together, 9.2% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 37.5% are non-families. 34.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 22.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.33 and the average family size is 3.01.

In the city the population is spread out with 27.1% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 24.0% from 25 to 44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 22.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 81.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $31,818, and the median income for a family is $43,571. Males have a median income of $32,051 versus $19,776 for females. The per capita income for the city is $17,596. 8.3% of the population and 5.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 7.3% are under the age of 18 and 17.2% are 65 or older.
