Sagadahoc County is a county located in the U.S. State of Maine. As of 2000, the population is 35,214. Its county seat is Bath6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 959 km² (370 mi²). 658 km² (254 mi²) of it is land and 301 km² (116 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 31.41% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 35,214 people, 14,117 households, and 9,641 families residing in the county. The population density is 54/km² (139/mi²). There are 16,489 housing units at an average density of 25/km² (65/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.49% White, 0.92% African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.63% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.38% from other races, and 1.21% from two or more races. 1.11% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 14,117 households out of which 33.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.60% are married couples living together, 9.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.70% are non-families. 25.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.47 and the average family size is 2.96.

In the county the population is spread out with 25.80% under the age of 18, 6.60% from 18 to 24, 30.50% from 25 to 44, 24.90% from 45 to 64, and 12.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 96.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.10 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $41,908, and the median income for a family is $49,714. Males have a median income of $34,039 versus $24,689 for females. The per capita income for the county is $20,378. 8.60% of the population and 6.90% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 12.20% are under the age of 18 and 6.40% are 65 or older.
