Ruth Dreifuss

Ruth Dreifuss (pronounced dryfoos, born January 9, 1940), Swiss politician.

She was elected to the Federal Council of Switzerland on March 10, 1993 (as the second woman ever and the only Jew so far) and has held the Federal Department of Home Affairs (Switzerland)[?] until her resignation on December 31, 2002. She is affiliated to the Social Democratic Party of Switzerland.

She was president of Switzerland in 1999.
