Geography Royal Lakes is located at 39°6'45" North, 89°57'43" West (39.112532, -89.961892)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.3 km² (0.5 mi²). 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 9.80% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 190 people, 80 households, and 46 families residing in the village. The population density is 156.1/km² (408.1/mi²). There are 121 housing units at an average density of 99.4/km² (259.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 15.79% White, 80.53% African American, 0.53% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.05% from other races, and 2.11% from two or more races. 1.05% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 80 households out of which 26.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.5% are married couples living together, 15.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.5% are non-families. 40.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 22.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
