Roswell Keyes Colcord

Roswell K. Colcord (April 25, 1839-October 30, 1939 served as Governor of Arizona from 1891-1895. Born in Searsport, Maine, Colcord immigrated to Arizona in the 1870s and became a successful mining engineer. He also set up a law practice and became one of the top attorneys in the state.

Elected as Governor in 1891, Colcord (a Republican) strengthened the states economy and also signed the states first admissions day bill.

After his term as Governor, Colcord was named Superintendent of the United States Mint, a position he held from 1898 to 1911. His death at age 100 in 1939 was a surprise, because he was in relatively good health at the time of his death.
