Rockwall County is a county located in the U.S. State of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 43,080. Its county seat is Rockwall6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 385 km² (149 mi²). 334 km² (129 mi²) of it is land and 52 km² (20 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 13.39% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 43,080 people, 14,530 households, and 11,972 families residing in the county. The population density is 129/km² (334/mi²). There are 15,351 housing units at an average density of 46/km² (119/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 89.17% White, 3.24% African American, 0.40% Native American, 1.32% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 4.45% from other races, and 1.37% from two or more races. 11.07% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 14,530 households out of which 44.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.00% are married couples living together, 8.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.60% are non-families. 14.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.92 and the average family size is 3.23.

In the county, the population is spread out with 30.10% under the age of 18, 7.00% from 18 to 24, 31.10% from 25 to 44, 23.30% from 45 to 64, and 8.60% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 100.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.90 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $65,164, and the median income for a family is $71,448. Males have a median income of $49,636 versus $32,410 for females. The per capita income for the county is $28,573. 4.70% of the population and 3.80% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 5.60% are under the age of 18 and 4.10% are 65 or older.
