Roberts County, South Dakota

Roberts County is a county located in the U.S. State of South Dakota. As of 2000, the population is 10,016. Its county seat is Sisseton6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,941 km² (1,135 mi²). 2,852 km² (1,101 mi²) of it is land and 88 km² (34 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.00% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 10,016 people, 3,683 households, and 2,618 families residing in the county. The population density is 4/km² (9/mi²). There are 4,734 housing units at an average density of 2/km² (4/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 68.29% White, 0.10% African American, 29.86% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.03% from other races, and 1.51% from two or more races. 0.63% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,683 households out of which 33.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.50% are married couples living together, 11.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.90% are non-families. 26.80% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.66 and the average family size is 3.22.

In the county, the population is spread out with 30.00% under the age of 18, 7.20% from 18 to 24, 23.60% from 25 to 44, 22.20% from 45 to 64, and 17.00% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 98.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.20 males.
