Robert Stephenson

Robert Stephenson (1803 - 1859) was an English civil-engineer. He was the son of George Stephenson. Stephenson constructed a number of bridges and tunnels, and also constructed a number of railway lines, most notably the London and Birmingham Railway.

He constructed the high-level bridge at Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and the Menai and Conway tubular bridges in Wales.

Robert Stephenson was also a keen locomotive engineer, and worked on many of his fathers locomotives.

He also served as a Conservative member of parliament for Whitby from 1847 until his death.
