Ridge Spring is a town located in Saluda County, South Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 823.

Geography Ridge Spring is located at 33°50'45" North, 81°39'39" West (33.845942, -81.660845)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 4.8 km² (1.9 mi²). 4.7 km² (1.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.08% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 823 people, 321 households, and 217 families residing in the town. The population density is 173.6/km² (449.3/mi²). There are 368 housing units at an average density of 77.6/km² (200.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 33.90% White, 63.91% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.61% from other races, and 1.46% from two or more races. 2.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 321 households out of which 26.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.5% are married couples living together, 22.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.1% are non-families. 28.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.56 and the average family size is 3.18.

In the town the population is spread out with 24.4% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 23.5% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 18.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 81.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 80.3 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $25,982, and the median income for a family is $28,984. Males have a median income of $30,476 versus $20,208 for females. The per capita income for the town is $12,083. 26.6% of the population and 23.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 39.2% are under the age of 18 and 16.0% are 65 or older.
