Ridge is a town located in Suffolk County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 13,380.

Geography Ridge is located at 40°54'26" North, 72°52'58" West (40.907128, -72.882909)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 35.1 km² (13.6 mi²). 34.9 km² (13.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.66% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 13,380 people, 5,545 households, and 3,476 families residing in the town. The population density is 383.5/km² (993.6/mi²). There are 5,922 housing units at an average density of 169.7/km² (439.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 92.99% White, 3.45% African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.90% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.75% from other races, and 1.59% from two or more races. 3.51% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 5,545 households out of which 27.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.9% are married couples living together, 7.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.3% are non-families. 34.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 28.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.38 and the average family size is 3.09.

In the town the population is spread out with 23.2% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 24.5% from 25 to 44, 17.8% from 45 to 64, and 29.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 82.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 76.9 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $44,140, and the median income for a family is $60,039. Males have a median income of $49,539 versus $31,384 for females. The per capita income for the town is $23,387. 6.5% of the population and 4.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 7.5% are under the age of 18 and 6.0% are 65 or older.
