Resita is a
city in western
Romania and capital of Caras-Severin County, in the foothills of the Transylvanian
Alps. An important
iron and
steel center, Resita is the site of
blast furnaces[?], iron foundries, and plants producing electrical appliances,
chemicals, machinery, and
metals. A mining center in Roman times, the present-day city was founded in the 18th century when a foundry was established here. Population (2000) 94.580.
