Reasoning

The act of using reason to derive a conclusion from certain premises. In general, a distinction is made between reasoning from the general to the particular (called deductive reasoning) and reasoning from the particular to the general (called inductive reasoning). Both types of reasoning are of interest to such disciplines as philosophy and psychology.
