Rathdrum, Idaho

Rathdrum is a city located in Kootenai County, Idaho. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 4,816.

Geography Rathdrum is located at 47°48'30" North, 116°53'33" West (47.808457, -116.892415)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 12.5 km² (4.8 mi²). 12.5 km² (4.8 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 4,816 people, 1,570 households, and 1,273 families residing in the city. The population density is 385.0/km² (997.5/mi²). There are 1,658 housing units at an average density of 132.5/km² (343.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 95.16% White, 0.15% African American, 0.96% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.98% from other races, and 2.39% from two or more races. 3.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,570 households out of which 54.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.6% are married couples living together, 12.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.9% are non-families. 14.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.05 and the average family size is 3.33.

In the city the population is spread out with 35.7% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 33.9% from 25 to 44, 17.1% from 45 to 64, and 4.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 99.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $41,167, and the median income for a family is $42,652. Males have a median income of $31,108 versus $24,404 for females. The per capita income for the city is $14,022. 8.2% of the population and 9.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 8.3% are under the age of 18 and 12.3% are 65 or older.
